Dear all,
This year the 1 st conference for Facility Management will be held in Šibenik, in hotel village "Solaris". Widening its activity to the domain of Facility Management (FM) as well, the Management of the Croatian Maintenance Society brought the decision on holding the first conference which will be based on ever growing challenges which are posed related to this discipline in the Republic of Croatia. On this scientific - professional conference our wish is to exchange ideas and contacts related to FM profession which is developing very dynamically in the world and in recent years in Croatia as well.
Management and maintenance of property and accompanying infrastructure within business systems is a central topic of FM conferences, and it represents the real challenge due to increasing demands posed on them. Precisely the development of technology and skills of business management has enabled the clear structuring of FM as a separate profession with clearly defined competencies.
Recognizing FM as a separate profession started in the USA in early 1980s, and the expansion to other parts of the world during 1990s made FM recognizable in all highly-developed countries and business systems. In the last few years the notion of FM is increasingly applied in Croatia as well; this notion is used to describe different activities which are carried out within the framework of management and maintenance of property and all accompanying contents which make this infrastructure.
FM is a multidisciplinary profession whose aim and task is usage of maximum synergic effects in managing property by efficient balancing between financial resources and operational activities. This is an integration activity which builds modern and interactive social environment in harmony with the community connecting people, material, and space in the process. In the foreground, the skills of business management, management of processes and resources, as well as management and maintenance of property and technical systems stand out. By changing the paradigm of viewing organization from functional to process approach - the way of understanding of execution of business activities, even business culture, is completely changed. FM should be examined precisely in this direction, as an integrator of processes within the organization which maintains and develops services which boost efficiency of fundamental processes of the business system.
Our wish is to encourage new topics and ideas in the domain of FM by intensive communication of scientists and experts on this conference. The lectures of distinguished authors from abroad, as well as Croatian authors from specialized domains will enable better knowledge of Facility Management domain.
